Default GW has competition in the 'CORPG' Market: Fury

Another CORPG is hitting the market in the near future. Fury jumps past the first steps made by Guild Wars by creating a true PvPers game. An interview even mentions that there will be no PvE MOB's. Auran hasn't released information about monthly payments (or their lack thereof), and you should know asking for a release date is herisy. It seems that game is already stirring up interest in the competitive GW community.

The official site: http://unleashthefury.com/
The only existing fansite: http://fury-sanctuary.com/ (One of the lead designers for the game has already taken interest in the small community)

Works for me. Let the PvPers go there, and let GW focus fully on PvE content (the part I enjoy )

No grinding sounds good. But if it requires monthly fee, perharps I can't get it.

Completing a trial unlocks a lost memory from one of their previous incarnations, unleashing new and more powerful abilities. Additionally, an avatar’s overall rank is determined by the number of unlocked memories.

Players are free to focus their avatar down a specialized path such as “Death Magic” or take a more balanced approach and complete trials from multiple schools and paths. This means players are not restricted to a strict class template set by the game designers.
No grind? We'll see.

1v1 combat? :S

Why does this sound familiar...
Oh wait... I know. HA Worlds at War model!

I'm not holding my breath yet. Still, thanks for sharing. I'll follow with interest till more is known...

Yeah, the unlocking system does sound a bit... iffy... at first, but you also only ever need one character, because you can change your skills and armour and weapons and attributes (if there are attributes) around while not in a battle zone any time you like and for free. Since there are no classes, you never need a second character, as far as I can tell. In any case, it should be a lot less trouble than running 4 characters (including Factions) through the game to unlock all skills like in GW.

You can also save "incarnations", which will be a custom assembly of skills, armour, etc. Incarnations are assigned an "Archetype" based on what sort of skills are placed on the bar (if you bring lots of healing spells, you'll be labeled as healer).

There are still doubts, but seeing as this is a PvP only game, and will be free from the akward balance of PvE and PvP that GW has suffered from, I can't see the developers making any big mistakes such as huge amounts of grind. I'm looking forward to a game where I can go into a battle and walk away with 1 or 2 skills, and enough gold and skillpoints (or their equivilant) to buy a couple more.

Armour and Weapons will be distributed randomly with a bidding system, and will be randomly generated at the end of battles. Each player on the winning team will get 3 bids, which he can place on whichever piece he wants.

Equipment (which includes armour, weapons, and a briefly mentioned "rings") as well as Skills will be tied to a point system. Think of attribute points, except rather than controlling your proficiency with a set of skills or a weapon, they will control what kind of skills and equipment you can bring: Bringing really powerful skills will take up more points, just as better equipment will. There are 24 skill slots on a skillbar, but you may not choose to fill in all of them.

There is no mana bar, but rather, a "charge bar". The charge bar builds up while using smaller, weaker spells, and then is depleted when using bigger, more powerful spells. It's like if you used orison of healing so that you could later use a heal other, or spammed flare to build up enough energy for a fireball. Using a (charging) skill from an element opposed to some element depletes the charge of the other element. This essentially means you can't use both Water and Fire as efficiently, but it probably also means that you can bring both and then switch from Water to Fire based on the situation or opponents.

Sounds like a cool game. It sucks if it owns Guild Wars on the market and everyone leaves to play that but I wouldn't mind exlporing a whole new game. I loved GW the best when I first played it, and went thru the game the first time without any ridiculous runs or any cheating for that matter. Now, it's repetative and Fractions isn't all that great either...

Yeah, I still play GW for GvG or guild-HA runs, but Fury is looking too good to be true. I'm hoping for a game where I can get someone to play with me without having to warn them they'll need 2-3 characters through the game for my guild to have any interest in them.
